A Time of Change. C.V

So the whipping boys prevail
As England leave Brazil
Having just a point nicked in the final game
T’was the only thing they won
After two weeks in the sun
Yet I’m far from down. I thought we did okay.

I could write you ream on ream
On changes needed to the team
Or maybe even giving Roy his cards
But experts more astute than me at this
(Who scoff while advertising crisps)
Have said enough, which I find quite bizarre.

The wind of change don’t suit us all
But it’s obviously needed when we fall
Every time a tournament comes around
I’ve seen some players at first hand
In this World Cup, and Hodgson’s plans,
Comfortable, especially playing it on the ground.

I’ve watched some wonderful give and go’s
Two pacey wingers, (remember those?)
An elegant central midfielder with a shot
The option of three who can attack
and with a bit of tinkering at the back
I can see where Hodgson’s going with this crop.

So this ain’t the time for being morbid
What I’ve seen so far is going forward
Toward a wonderful day for us punters on the street
So give the team a chance to bond
Welcome change and give a positive response
Toward a time of looking upward not downbeat.

So for the slights and his taking of the piste
From the clown, our game’s made extremely rich
Sitting smugly in the studio while he scoffs:
You didn’t get to win The Golden Boot you nit
Cos Belanov scored more bleedin goals than you did
It’s time to get over it, and like the England team move on.
