After Eight – Norwich City v ‘Boro

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Four-one down at home
This wasn’t in the script
Looking like the Dog ‘n’ Duck
Relegation tipped
Ten minutes to go
Some fans already gone
We sing through gritted teeth
Our ‘loyal supporters’ song
We pull a goal back, four-two
Even ‘Boro fans applaud
They had nothing else to do
It stopped them getting bored
Injury time beckoned
Norwich watches all stopped still
Too late to salvage points
But at least we’d bettered nil
Our subs were on
Last dice were thrown
Surging forward in attack
Their paper bag defence was blown
We scored a third
Couldn’t believe our eyes
The crowd roared like warriors
Gaining strength, restoring hope and pride
Within seconds, the equaliser came
The noise released was volcanic
Four-four so we saved a point
Still could emulate the Titanic

Notes

When City scored their fourth, the release from the fans was incredible..
Someone was screaming incessantly, like a girl. It was ear piercing and doing my head in. I wished it would stop. I realised it was me.

Ceefax brought us back to real life. We had slipped a place, one point from bottom. But we walked home with heads held high.
