Anyone but Man U

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Who d’you want to take the Title?
Who should end up Top the Table?
Th’issue, you’ll agree, is vital,
Pray respond, if you are able.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Like the thought of Windows Wenger whooping “Di’n’t I tell you so?”
Or Moneybags Abramovich doing cartwheels down King’s Road?
Fancy Red-clad Merseysiders crowing “Who’ll now take the piss?”
While Houllier, all cock-a-hoop quips “My Boyz, zey worked ‘ard for zis”?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Tour the length and breadth of England,
Scout around the pubs and clubs.
Nationwide up goes the same cry,
While strong pints of ale are supped:

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 “We hate Arsenal, we hate Chelsea,
We hate mighty Liverpool.
We don’t fancy Leeds or Pompey,
And there’s no hope for the Wolves…

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Ask us who our Top Spot Choice is,
Sure as one and one make two,
We’ll reply with plaintive voices:
‘Anyone, just Anyone, oh, Anyone,
But NOT Man U!!!’”

Notes

I should have written this to coincide with the start of Season 03-04, but the Inspiration arrived a couple of months later… The refence to Houllier as Liverpool Manager means the poem is now slighty out of date, but apart from that detail, I hope the poem still expresses the sentiments felt by the approximately two thirds of the English population who do not support Manchester United.
