Banks of England

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 That save!
We all know the one.
In the great tradition of British goalkeeping –
Gordon Banks:
ball up and down like a vertical pinball machine
somehow tipped over.
We’re all expecting ‘TILT’
I still see it in my dreams…

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Bravo Gordon (GB for short) but
of course it was the old familiar story –
safe as the Banks of England.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 That was another era –
when we had ‘keepers
we could put our unsponsored shirts on.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And today?
American,
Australian,
Austrian…

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I’d say
the FA net is full
of crabs
and sharks
and gaping holes.

Notes

In football build from the back. Now who said that?
