Cardboard box brings on Football Poem!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Pulp, lay mushed
in the wet November road
I knew it was such
from the remnants of the packaging
lying sodden in the gutter
some having escaped
the trampling underfoot
of the modern revolutionary horsepower

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 but all the same
the brown slush, looked like …
rhymes with …
white
might
blight (kick it out)

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 in fact, the sort of stuff
that my team has been dishing out for years
but no more …
in fact, now
I not only expect them to score
but also
to realistically
have a shout … at THE TITLE!

Notes

could of course be any team, at the onset of a season,
when hopes are fresh and unspoiled
but given the day of posting,
this season, I’m hoping for the fireworks of a ‘Roman’ candle celebration!

And especially so, given last night’s thrashing of Lazio, 4-0 in Rome in the Champions League group stage.
