Day 28 : Sonnets

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 World Cup Sonnet

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 What does it mean, to the youth of today
All this talk, of classic World Cups past
Of legends they never saw play
And unaware, of the dreams that were made to last?
They’ve listened, with awe and rapt attention
To the tales, of Puskas, Pele, Maradonna and Charlton
From story tellers, still flabbergasted, by goals of great invention
But the big question, will it be the BBC or ITV (Granada / Carlton)
That will win the viewers vote?
By which commentators dulcet tones
Will they learn the names of new idols, by rote
Then to exchange txt bntr on mobile phones
For modern technology dictates, that the eventual winners
Will be the mealy-mouthed subject, over tv dinners

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 World Cup Sonnet II

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 There’s various degrees
Of difficulties
In facing a World Cup seed
On that, I think we’re all agreed
For starters, there’s mein host
With expectations, higher than most
And those for whom success is the norm
But currently find themselves, suffering a loss of form
And how we’ll derive such satisfaction
When fancied favourites, go missing in action
But it all comes down, to whoever has the greatest desire
Who is prepared, to fight fire with fire
To rise above the good, the bad and the mire
And so to lift, the Jules Rimet trophy, higher and higher

Notes

The big day is getting closer and the hype is building!
