Dogfight III & IV

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Dogfight III

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Do not stand behind the goal and weep.
For we did not die. And the Prem can keep.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Who knows?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Perhaps next season, we’ll awaken
And find a promotion berth
Not yet taken.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Dogfight IV (literally) – one by one they fell

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Gnasher bashed
And Pluto lampooned
Goofy guffawed
But Scooby’s doomed

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Then Gnasher clashed
And Pluto plummeted –
Still one from two
To be trumpeted

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Finally, Gnasher crashed
Whimpered ….. then wailed
So goofy smiles all round
From the ones who prevailed

Notes

some would say that Goofy isn’t a dog anyway

Dogfight III could apply to any season, any league.

Dogfight IV –

Written for the finish of the 2004 / 2005 Premiership season,
which saw the bottom 4 teams enter the very last day
all with a chance of staying up.
Incredible situation.

And wouldn’t you just know it, at different stages of the afternoon, each team had their time in the safety zone –
and yet, the team that survived – West Brom – were the ones in the worst position at the start of the matches. For they had to win and hope that nobody else did.
Full credit to Bryan Robson for turning round the Baggies season.
And for also putting to bed the pschological straightjacket that said whoever was bottom of the Premiership at Christmas, was always relegated at season’s end.

Re : Dogfight III : “the Prem can keep” – easy to say I guess, when you’ve just won it!
