Euro 2004 Diary : Day 15

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Saturday 26th June

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The full kaleidoscope of the drama of penalty kicks apart ….

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 It was a pastel shade
kindofamatch
all whites and yellows
it needed a bit more oomph
and a few more bellows

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Too many measured passes
were the order of the day
turgid tactics
stencilled into the players minds

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 it wasn’t the sort of match
to decorate a finals tournament
when trying to find the net was curtains
due to the well sentried, shuttered blinds

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 the guardians –
Denmark’s Sorensen, in drab grey
and Holland’s van der Sar, in wishy washy blue;
you longed for a bit more gay
rather than this insipid hue

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 but then the plasma polyfilla’d transfusion of penalty kicks
transformed into an ice cold cobalt
and with it, Edwin’s steely stare
that communicated to his young team mate –
miss it if you dare!

Notes

Holland 0 Sweden 0

Holland win on penalties,
Chelsea new boy Arjen Robben hitting the winner
after Fulham’s Edwin van der Sar saved from Aston Villa’s Olaf Mellberg
