Euro 2004 Diary : Day 19

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Wednesday 30th June

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 With Lisbon in their sights
and as the end of the tournament nears
‘Big Phil’ Scolari wins over the detractors
and puts an end to the smears

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The first host nation to reach the final
in nigh on twenty years
The men in maroon really upped their game
to allay the Portuguese fears

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Young Cristiano Ronaldo, was constantly motoring
working hard then gamely upped the gears
Maturing nicely, and more than able
to live alongside his peers

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Figo fought in a way we’d rarely seen
he sweated blood, then shed tears
He needed a big performance
one that would silence the sneers

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 By contrast, Arjen Robben, kept flippin’ floppin’
always to jeers
He’d better watch himself, when on his way
to Chelsea he veers

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The Dutch despaired and offered little
but as the fog of febrile fêting clears
Just the Greeks and Czechs battle out to reach
potentially the best finale in years
