Euro 2004 Diary : Day 20

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Thursday 1st July

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Not just a writers block

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I needed inspiration
because my turn of phrase
was impeded

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 my stilted stanza’s stunted
my chutzpah chopped
my couplets cropped
my tempo tugged
my puns pinched
my metre man-handled
my beat baulked
my haiku hacked

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 even my rhyme’s
whether good, bad or rancid
were halted in their prime
although I might get away with :
Bolf, replacing my weekly golf
Smicer, went down well with my pizza
Rosicky, but then I start to get picky

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I needed inspiration
but the muse that is my Nedved
limped off, utterly distraught
and so the satisfaction quota – equated naught

Notes

Greece 1 Czech Republic 0

The first ‘silver goal’ of the competition, scored by the Greek rock of a centre back, Dellas

I’m pleased for Greece : it’s great to see the underdogs triumph,
but I must admit, they don’t excite me.

Where is the pizazz, the wow factor?
Even now, I cannot imagine many Foxes fans wondering why they ever got rid of Zagorakis.
