Ev’ry Home Should Have One

She sits beside me as i write
I gaze up at her day and night
and ev’ry time i get a call
I always check upon my wall
my life is planned out selfishly
from Joburg down to Glastonbury
I know exactly where I’ll be
and where I can’t be too – you see
and ev’ry stop is neatly planned
for a poet with a football plan

for one whole month I will survive
in spite of weddings that arrive
or parties gigs or invites-out
that do not clash with what’s about
because on hand my vital friend
who maps my course until its end
who pulls me like some Christmas cracker
my loyal World Cup Tournament Tracker
with empty boxes soon to fill
with scores and names that journey ’til
at last upon that magic day
the final moment comes our way
the one I follow with my heart
upon my brand new World Cup Chart….
