Flash in the Pan?

Was it just a marvellous dream
From which we have awoken?
Held in uttermost esteem
Whene’er great deeds are spoken?
When Ireland got behind the team,
Not merely as a token?
When glowing pride did reign supreme,
When that great spell was broken?

And now, as we set sail again,
With hopes of repetition,
Are we soon to feel the pain
Of Lady Luck’s attrition?
Dare we hope once more to gain
Exultant recognition?
Or will our poor form set in train
Our premature perdition?
