Football these Days

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Each generation says the same
that our football is the best,
our players are so much better
and our teams are superior than the rest.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 But what’s happening to our football
it’s full of divers who like to cheat,
they will do almost anything
to prevent their team from getting beat.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 They’ll even trip themselves up
and go flying through the air,
as long as they can con the referee
they have no shame or even care.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And players seem to be more interested in cash
than wear their club shirts with pride,
one minute their signing a contract
the next their playing for another side.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Our beloved clubs are being taken over
by men in suits who haven’t got a clue,
they think because they have pots of money
buying a football club is the thing to do.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But most of them are out of their depth
as they turn our clubs into Hollywood,
and the reason they come unstuck ?
they haven’t got football in their blood.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Football was supposed to be for everyone
but the cost is forcing many fans away,
young kids are missing seeing their idols
as their parents just can’t afford to pay.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So is football better these days
than the decades that have gone before ?
and are the likes of Rooney,and Suarez,
better players than Greaves,Best,and Law ?

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Myself I preferred football in the 60’s and 70’s
yet I’m still passionate about the beautiful game,
but I hate all the divers and cheaters of today
who are bringing so much anger and shame.

Notes

My late father used to say football was better in his day and I’ve said the same to my youngest son as well.But after watching that disgraceful penalty given at Chelsea at the weekend,and more diving from Ashley Young,it got me thinking football now is full of cheats.
And our clubs are being taken over by owners with more money than football sense ! I still love football but you must wonder where it’s heading ?
