Grace of Anfield

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The sphinx The Jungle The Taj Mahal
Places graced by wonder and power
But God the blood courses through our veins
At Anfield when the Redmen play
The beauty of its songs within
Could charm the ears of heaven’s kin
Those skills sublime of strength and pace
From Lindsay, Heighway, Hall and Case

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Of artists I was proud to witness
Burned me heart and caught me soul
And never tire of legends telling
Stories new and those of old
The chants the cheers that always thrilled me
Names sung out each terrace hymn
And now the young will take their places
But their deeds will linger still.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We’re ragged old pirates our jeans ripped and dirty
We’ve nowt in our pockets but the remnants of dreams
But the scarf round my neck is my passport to heaven
A place in me heart a place I have been
We’re full of the blarney we’re dead on our feet
And we’ve lost all our money and the shoes on our feet
But I’ve kissed the moon and to heaven I’ve been
A song in me heart for the price of a dream

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 We’ll follow the redmen and sing of their glories
Pray ghosts that are restless will soon find their peace
To the past we are grateful give praise to the story
But the present is calling and here we should be
We follow the Redmen we’ve taken the vows
Just like Holy Orders we’re bonded and how
And that place that is heaven I’m on the way now
You know it as Anfield in Liverpool Town.
