Heroes

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Courage of the players on the pitch
echoed by the masses of fans in the stands.
All stood as one to salute
the families of the 96.
Merseyside united in its grief,
in its burning desire for justice.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Fans gyrating in the stands
as their team goes 2-0 up;
another comeback of epic proportions?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Those same supporters standing mutely
to commemorate the lives of
so many lost loved ones.
Current players and gnarled old pros
sitting together with legions of fans in
mourning.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Holding scarves proudly aloft, joining Gerry
in belting out the famous Mersey beat:
‘You’ll never walk alone.’
96 gone, but not forgotten.

Notes

I can’t believe that Hillsborough happened 20 years ago. I am not a Liverpool fan, but I was close to tears when watching the memorial service from Anfield this afternoon. The fight for justice for the 96 fans lost on that terrible day goes on.
