¶ 1
Leave a comment on verse 1 0
if footballs, had only replaced the guns
what matches they would have been
¶ 2
Leave a comment on verse 2 0
if trenches, had only been benches
with the intervening ground left as green
¶ 3
Leave a comment on verse 3 0
if rattles, had only replaced the tanks
then the rat-a-tat-tat, wouldn’t have brought such fear
¶ 4
Leave a comment on verse 4 0
if only the poppies, could unceremoniously grow wild
without ever having the symbolism, they bring every year
¶ 5
Leave a comment on verse 5 0
if only people in power, could pounce upon peace
then the martyrs and all the lost souls
¶ 6
Leave a comment on verse 6 0
could have spent their lives, just like us
celebrating goals
