Our defending though last ditch
Seemed sound

Our illustrious opposites
With their abundance of riches
Still couldn’t quite break us down.

Only eight from our eleven turned up
Which saw us struggling
For most of the game.

We had opportunities enough
Though it would be hailed as a mugging
Had we won at the end of the day?

We look to the coming World Cup
A new playing style,
Supporting the boss.

For a few, the game (sic) is now up
Common news for a while
Long before yesterdays loss.

Notes

Come on, it’s not that bad, us just getting out of the group was a feat in itself under the circumstances, wasn’t it?

Even with only eight men playing yesterday, we gave it a better go than the French and the Dutch teams to name but two, didn’t we?

Lots of positives: Glen Johnson was for me a revelation, The Ox is going to be a wonderful asset. Future looks good with Roy Hodgson at the helm, a bona fide football man, with great integrity, who players really get on with and understand by the looks of it!

Then there’s Andrea Pirlo, who was just awesome. He was seemingly everywhere!

Go well and be lucky. Three more wonderful games in prospect.
