Invasion of the cones

We don’t know where they came from,
they appeared overnight.
Some were dull and dirty,
some were luminous and bright.
Like some pyramidal party
was about to begin.
Some stood to attention
(but some had their sides sunken in).
All arranged in patterns
from straight forward to complex.
Had aliens landed ?
We were slightly perplexed.
Then along came ‘Cooks’
with a clipboard in hand.
‘Gather round girls
and see what I’ve planned’.
‘Don’t worry’ she said.
‘It will all become clear’,
‘I’ll give you some co-ordinates’,
you’ll run from here to there’.
(‘No we won’t’ said some).

As she went on to explain
the invasion of cones,
the beautiful patterns
had turned into zones.
‘You lot in the bibs
will be at the back’.
‘You two will float,
the rest will attack’.
‘You’ll see on sunday,
I’ve not gone insane’.
‘Cos what we do in training
will transfer to the game’.

So I stood in my zone
fed up with it all.
Just give me two nets,
a field and a ball.

But before we knew it
the ordeal was over.
It was time to clear away
this multicoloured supernova.
‘Please keep the colours seperate’.
(We duly ignored her)
We put them away
but in the wrong order !
