IS IT RED ROSE DAY OR IS IT RED NOSE DAY?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I’m in a daze
Over Red Rose Day;
Is it Red Rose Day
Or is it Red Nose Day?
I say what day
Is it? These days
Leave me fazed,
In a haze,
Cuz it’s craz-
Y the way that people go
When they don’t even know
What it’s for,
And I don’t want to bore
You with the list of reasons,
It would take all 4 seasons,
That long list,
And it’s politics,
And do we really want to hear about
Drought?
Starvation,
Privation,
Infant mortality,
Life expectancy,
Global inequality?
No, cuz we want Comic Relief.
Comic relief. A laugh.
Don’t make me laugh.
Good grief,
Where’s the fun in relief?
Relief that is temporary,
Intermittent,
Instead of a way that’s permanent;
It’s not a solution to poverty’s pollution,
It’s charity,
Not parity,
It’s not a redistribution of wealth
And a re-ordering of health,
But it’s better than nothing, isn’t it?
And it’s better than doing nothing isn’t it?
It’s better that we should raise our hearts and thoughts and eyes,
To raise the question why
There is such a disparity in our world,
So let’s see a flag unfurled,
A rainbow flag of humanity
So that we can see
How we can share
And be fair
To our sisters and brothers across the globe
Not just while they’re in the media’s strobe,
But again and again and again
For you never know
That it might just be so
That one day we’ll need them
To help us again and again,
And on that note, adieu,
Yes, they can help us too!
(But why say they,
For they are we,
Humanity,
And we means me
And they means we
And we means me,
So in helping them,
We help ourselves,
QED –
And charity can roam
Far from home.

Across all the climates of this spinning globe.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 (But one more thing before I go,
We all know
That top footballers grind their axes
About paying top rate taxes –
But what if they all paid a wealth tax,
That would raise stacks
Of dosh
And nosh,
Not just for days,
But for always.
And a red rose of equality might just bloom
Across all the climates of this spinning globe).

Notes

We planted a climbing red rose today to symbolise our commitment to others.
