Its Not All To Do With Money.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Its not all to do with money
Though money can buy the best
A brand new car or second hand? Its irrelevant
But the driver? Thats the test.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Open cheques have signed some dreck*
In recent seasons past
But the manager is the catalyst
Tis he who sets the cast

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Like a sculptor he moulds, then shapes,
The team he wants to see
Not all gaffers have this vision
It seems pretty plain to me

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 How many teams are nearly bankrupt
Its not just two or three
Blinded by a visionary
Whose illusions we can’t see?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The boss gets fired, a new ones hired
With a jigsaw thats not finished
The new bloke has to sort this out
Whilst watching where they finish

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Each team has a budget
That the board veto to spend
Its not always spent wisely
As is the current trend

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 When things go north
As they can of course
Do the players take the can?
No, its the manager
With the p45 in his hand!

Notes

Money is very important, but I also happen to think that good or great managers build good or great teams, depending on the resources available to them in terms of money and players.

Most great clubs have been turned around at some time by a visionary manager who worked within the boundaries of what there was spend.

Some managers have done great jobs with very little money and great credit to them should be given.

Then you have the teams who try to buy success by just chucking money at the problem, looking for a solution and it never seems to work.

A couple of Spanish and Italian clubs come to mind, but I’m getting very worried that its starting to happen here now as well.

We’ve mid table teams in this country at the moment with massive borrowings, chairman who keep signing cheques in the hope that success will come as a result of those cheques.

Leeds is surely a warning to us all that just spending dosh don’t take the pressure off?

peace.

kev.
