League Cup (Lament)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 “Bravehearts Night” at Villa Park
At last, the League Cup was won
Goals from Hansen, then Dalglish
The Irons of West Ham outdone

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Success over Hoddle’s Tottenham
Red flags waved all ‘round the stands
A Whelan brace and one for Rush
Then Grobbelaar walked on his hands

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Kennedy and Whelan stunned United
Made a young Norman Whiteside cry
Paisley climbed those Wembley steps
Smiled and raised the cup up high

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The first Liverpool-Everton Final
Blues left Maine Road all teary-eyed
When Souness smashed past Southall
We were “The Pride of Merseyside”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 McManaman dribbled and popped in two
Bolton just trembled with fear
Roy Evans proved that nice guys win
Then went out and bought McAteer

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Birmingham City at The Millennium
Where Westerveld saved the day
Houllier drenched in fine champagne
As he carried his first trophy away

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Steve Gerrard’s long range screamer
Owen sealed it with his late chance
Beckham slumped on the Cardiff turf
Watching Dudek’s victory dance …

Notes

Some memories of Liverpool’s seven League Cup wins …

After the recent League Cup QUARTER FINAL between Liverpool and Arsenal, where both clubs fielded near reserve sides, I decided that I would not be attending any more League Cup ties. I feel it is the club’s decision rather than mine. If they can’t be bothered with it, then why should I?
