Milan – Real Madrid 19/04/89 Minuto di silenzio

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Sometimes Football transcends its tribalism
‘Breaks its rusty cage’ and calls to its soul
Whatever the colours, scarves, songs
In a gesture that remembers the fallen
Not as rivals but friends, sisters, brothers
In Football.

Notes

THis is a true story: During a match Milan – Real Madrid 19/04/89
the referee stopped the game after 6 minutes – the time the game at Hillsborough was stopped. And the words of YNWA rained down from the terrace calling out to the Liverpool fans to offer comfort, condolences and comradeship.

Such respect from the players and fans of the two grand clubs will never be forgotten.

Celtic supporters too were amongst the first to offer the most supportive and generous of hands and hearts. Respect.

JFT96 RIP YNWA.
