On a Normandy Beach 2004

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Gentle sands and the waters warm now
Teasing between slow moving toes
Plastic buckets and little flags
Discarded with the shells and egg butties
Blood washed away
Limbs cleaned and packed away
The bullets shelved and marked
Having left marks

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Wide open beaches filled with the summer sounds
Laughter and football songs
The taste of salt and a blue eye upon the sun
Who walked my steps
Who fell into the deep sleep
Beneath my steps
History

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A million dreams came here to rest
A million suns a million skies
God, did you shed your tears here? once more
With your children
With your sons and daughters
The blood red poppies I tried to count
So many lives we are waves upon the ocean
We are waves upon the sea
Rushing in and out we ebb and flow
We ebb and flow
Catching our dreams on a football pitch
On a faraway football pitch
Forever England.
