On The Way To Anfield

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I was 7 years old when I first went to heaven
Sat in The Kemyln Road to cheer the Anfield 11
Wrapped up in me red scarf and feeling so proud
Singing the songs I was one of the crowd
The Kop filled up quickly just like a red sea
Their banners and flags rolled out endlessly
I’d never seen passion like this in my life
And when Shankly walked out their cheers filled the skies

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The Redman our heroes we’d roar them all on
From Rowdy and Cally to Ian St John
Hughes full of running and the wings of Heighway
Pass the ball and move forward The Liverpool Way
The words of our anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone
Went straight to my heart and there found a home
I clutched my Dad’s hand and then looked in his eyes
The words would not come and me Dad, he just smiled

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Now that day was my Baptism and my faith has not strayed
Not once has temptation ever lulled me away
They have filled up my heart like an overflowing cup
And when I’ve been down they have lifted me up
From the steps of my travels and the footprints I’ve left
To the place of my heart down the old Walton Breck
Where I found my religion upon its sustenance fed
First, Last and Forever, always a Red…
