Searching for Wolves in Africa

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The ‘News of the World’ spread out on the floor,
My Dad walking in through the side door.
“I can’t find the Wolves,
I can’t see the score!
Come help me, I’m looking but can’t look any more!”
That was me way back when
I was only just eight,
Living in Africa-
But I just couldn’t wait to find my team’s score,
That’s why I was lying prone on the floor.
Dad flipped a few pages, then flipped a few more
And I saw Billy Wright smiling up from the floor.
Captain, my Captain, I’ll never forget
That team that you led and that I never met.
But Wolves lived in Africa
And still live in my heart,
I now live in Surrey
So we’re not far apart.

Notes

Born in Dudley, just outside Wolverhampton. Emigrated to South Africa with my Mom and Dad when I was one year old, I grew up hearing about the Wolves and then reading about the Wolves (no four-legged wolves live in Africa by the way). Now I am living in England I hope one day to visit Molineux and soak up some of the history.
