1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 God walked the streets of Merseyside
It was the year of ‘59
And He found his way to Anfield
Where the sun had seldom shined
He told his faithful gathered there
Good news was on the way
A man He’d sent to win their hearts
And build a team that day

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 This man he came from Glenbuck Ayrshire
Played for the North End Boys
Graced the field with Finney
And he’d fill their hearts with joy
His soul was mined with courage
His boots and braces too
His heart was made from Scottish steel
His religion Liverpool

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 He took us to the glory land
A place we’d never seen or heard
And for the waiting newsmen
He’s always have a word
He gave us bread and finest wine
He gave us knights and kings
He gave us dreams to live our lives
And better songs to sing

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 He gave us pride and made us great
He found a rock to build upon
He gave us Hughes and Rowdy Yeats
But first was Ian St John
With Roger’s goals the strength of Byrne
Hall and Cally on the wings
By God we knew the best of life
Because of Bill Shankly

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 God walked the streets of Merseyside
The year was 1981
He saw the pride of Liverpool
Stretched his hand and said: “Time to come home now son”
But Shankly’s soul with no regrets
Looked to his maker then declared
“Lord leave me on the Anfield pitch
For that’s my heaven on earth”.
