Some People Are On The Pitch

We’re back in the year of 1966
and I’m just a young lad,
watching the World Cup Final
on the telly with my mum and dad.
It’s England v West Germany
my dad’s drinking a bottle of beer,
I’m lying down on the carpet
and the kick off is ever so near.
The Germans score early,go 1-0 up
but Hurst equalises so it’s all square,
half – time it’s a goal apiece
sister upstairs as she really doesn’t care.
Second half England are on top
Peters smashes the ball into their net,
The Three Lions are now winning 2-1
but Germany haven’t given up just yet.
We’re shouting loudly for the final whistle
surely the 90 minutes is nearly up ?
but then they go and draw it level
so it’s extra time in the final of the Cup.
Then there’s a controversial incident
Hurst’s shot looks like it’s on the line ?
but after what seems an age it’s given
it’s a goal so that means it was fine.
With time running out we are all edgy
but Hurst nets again for his hat-trick,
England have only gone and won
leaving the Germans gutted and feeling sick.
We’re all jumping about wildly
even the dog is barking and going mad,
my sister comes to see what is happening
and says : ” you’re all barmy and sad.”
But we don’t care as we are all elated
and I wasn’t bothered about her thoughts anyhow,
as some people are on the pitch
they think it’s all over, it is now !
