pipe smoke and old blokes counting those draws
sitting with the coupons waiting for the scores

rushing from the stadium just before the end
long before mobiles when you could text a friend

celebration joy or buried in defeat
sometimes you didn’t know who was playing who
people at the back shouting “how did they do ?”

working out the tables and moving on up
sighing out loud at the shocks in the Cup
some start singing when they give out the news
little kids asking “what about the Blues?”

sixty years on – on a January day
still keeps going in the same old way
doesn’t really matter who you support
