The play flows this way, then that.
Each side tentatively testing the other,
Probing for weakness.

Years of tactical analysis.
The players fall into the patterns
Of each move and countermove.

Songs, praise and abuse in equal part,
Twenty five thousands experts
Telling twenty-five the rules.

To and fro
The game moves the full pitch length.
Attack and counter attack foiling each other.

The fans seek nourishment
As they dissect the action
With expert knowledge.

The fans give voice again to their heroes,
The game weaving its intricate patterns
As both sides strive to beat the deadlock.

The fans leap cheer, shout and sing,
And hurl abuse at the away fans.

The visitors score.
