The Beckham Brand

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The fragile fickle gods of fame
Their fashionable names woven
Into your boots
Your shirts
Your skin
Merge with the blood and sweat
Of immortality
Beneath the unforgiving glare
Of the floodlights
As a nation expects (once more)
And yet our dragon refused to be slain
Your dreams (and ours)
Kicked into the dust
Of the scorched Lisbon earth

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Iconic shirt seller
Whose hairstyles and moves
Are copied and replicated
If Andy Warhol was alive
“David Beckham” would be duplicated
A silkscreen print hero
Not galactico

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Lover Brother Father
Playing beautiful football
With the warmth of the son
On his back.
