The Fields Of Anfield

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Farewell the sands of time that fastened
Farewell to lovers whence I stole
A willin’ heart and willin’ lips
I cannot leave but I must go
The best of years I gave, and freely
Me money spent and rarely wise
But there within me heart it trembles
The roar goes up ‘neath blood red skies

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 There’s none so loved as this my passion
Borne in me soul held dearly there
Yea when I asked was freely given
The Fields of Anfield oh so fair
Farewell the days of youth oh slender
Fragments held by silver threads
The kings that brought us honour, glory
The crown of victory upon each head

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But now the time for dreaming over
The Kings all turned to silent sleep
Their swords disguised as football boots
That pierced defences quietly sheathed
All peaceful now but ne’er forgotten
The scent of glory but remains
For sure affection never withers
The Fields of Anfield still the same

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And in the heart of every Redman
Reveal the hopes of Kopites true
Long when the bloom of youth has perished
Eternal there is Liverpool
The language from the voice familiar
The cherished words will find a home
And none despair but find their comfort
Knowing none will walk alone

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And in the kop the songs they’re singing
Angels listen each enthralled
The flags and banners flying freely
Red scarves held high and seen by all
Our time is measured counted finely
What riches given must be returned
But lo! Behind the gates of heaven
The Fields of Anfield forever there…
