The Footballer formerly known as “Gazza”

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 No more tears and lager tales
Jut one belly full of memories
Broken legs and exquisite passes
Lobs and free kicks
Nutmegged demons (tho they still came back)
Precious few medals
But those goals immortal
Yes like Blakes’ tiger
The same immortal symmetry dazzled Hendry
Left him derelict
You are worth so much more
Than lurid stories kiss and tell
But which one is which
And who is who
A man can change his shirt
His home his wife
But his shadow clings
Until the final whistle
To whatever name
He chooses to wear.

Notes

“G8” – the new name Paul Gascoigne is now using (legally) as a way of breaking with the past.
