and just our luck to be top drawer
surpassing all that fell before

reduced to radios and phones
or pubs more used to groans and moans
we listened in – confused – alone

no pre-match nerves or fam’ly banter
but those few folk who had Setanta
they watched the lads win at a canter

terrestially reduced to care
for Lost In Austen or to stare
no highlights even in my hair
