The Liverpool Way

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Some they will look to the peace of the dreaming
Solace to anguish a balm to the soul
The sighs of the heart will entwine ever shadow
Implore of the moon with a prayer wildly thrown
The thunder of passion is an ocean unconquered
Fierce as the devil with his back to the wall
She’ll come for your love with a roar that will deafen
Steal hopes from your heart then leave nothing at all
Oh spells and magic those twin tyrants
In glasses dwell in thoughts sojourn
And hell will seem like paradise
Lull faithless hearts to stranger’s shores

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Of fortune spent and loves forsaken
Yea rare the ones to see again
Still we who rest in Anfield’s bosom
We dare not fold our dreams away
As swift as boundless as the stars
As free as men would chance to dream
A thousand years may come to pass
A thousand, thousand more to be
And still I’ll think myself well blessed
Of life’s rewards God gave to me
A witness to the glory that was
Shankly’s heart, Dalglish’s feet

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The days and nights of celebration
Cardiff, Dortmund, Paris, Rome
The seas of red from flags and banners
Hand-stitched with love and proudly flown
It’s true that gold has no such lustre
The nets of heaven no greater catch
The Pride of Anfield shines the brightest
The finest jewel, and none can match
Shanks, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan
‘Ere guardians of the Anfield flame
And in their hearts the truth reflected
What storms could blow and this erase?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 To my own nature I’m no truant
The bloom that fades is but skin deep
Through wind and rain like those before
I’ll follow but one football team
The charm was sprinkled in my sleeping
An angel bold yet sweet to hear
That flourished both the blood the bone
Through days on days from months to years
A child I was and drawn like others
A Redman’s path for sewn the seeds
To rest beside the Fields of Anfield
To rest beside, and never leave.
