The New Season

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The time for dreaming now is over
The time for promise we must see
For Redmen when you’re tired take heart
The best they say is yet to be
The past of glory can’t be denied
But like a ghost must come to rest
For words are words and deeds are actions
And on the pitch they speak the best

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 So many millions spent yet floundered
The prize we crave the same old quest
The next 9 months must bring the birth
The Championship title, nothing less
Still when our sorrows crowd around us
And when the darkness takes its toll
Remember boys that This Is Anfield
Remember here none walk alone

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 In 59 our prayers were answered
God sent us Shankly, our saviour came
A man from the North will bring us glory
A Celt by soul, well loved his name
The best of men have worn the red shirt
The spirit fused with love and pride
They’d run through walls come back for more
Each a legend for the side

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Oh times I took as well for granted
The games we lost I counted few
Christ knows the thirst my throat has burned
Have we the vine that bears the fruit
Patience is that serpent’s tail
Its kiss bestows a deadly sting
Like Damocles she waits to fall
The Title like a guillotine

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Oh fickle mistress restless sea
A fist disguised as velvet glove
So tell me do we burn today
What we once so dearly loved
So bring the banners wear the colours
Fly the flags and let them see
Walk on walk on with hope in our hearts
Walk on walk on for this grand football team…
