you act alone, more apart
than a part of any team.
It’s in your hands
or out of them;
slave to fate or
master of your own destiny?

The weight of a thousand eyes,
the burden of baited breath,
time to stand up and be counted.

Time to leap into the dark.
Blind
to all but instinct
and come out the other side,
ball in hands
and better for it.
