For six long years we’d been away
Because of the Hysel ban
And things looked grim early on
For every Liverpool fan.

A 2-0 defeat, we suffered in France
At the mercy of Auxerre
But once home at Anfield we regained some pride
And won 3-0 which was rare!

For players were injured and foreign rules imposed
So our second team we had to play
With Anfield half full we weren’t expected to win
But the fans enjoyed a winning way.

With a Jan Molby penalty and a Mike Marsh strike
Just before the break
We enjoyed the win and went berserk
Mark Walters, the goal, for the take.

Where we so longed to stay
But later on Genoa sadly beat us
