The Soul Of Football

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 How many times has the badge been kissed?
More than goals scored I’ll bet
Who pays the money to watch millionaires sweat
And curse and throw girlie punches
Alice bands and highlights
Is this really football?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 How many songs have been sung in praise
Of new gods each down from a terrace
Boots of clay and gold cards
Sponsorships and MacDonalds
How well we reward media(ocrity)
How easily pleased we are…

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 How many games pass beneath the dome
Of stadia left well behind their boots
Packed with blood and thunder and mistimed tackles
Hanging from the debris of the bootroom
“Come Home” I never really left
But there is bugger all now to return to.
