The Spirit of 66!

It is the spirit of 66 that keeps the doldrums away
When Hurst hit his famous hat-trick and the Germans were made to pay
To see Bobby Moore, Jules rimet aloft
It brings a lump to my throat, am i going soft
Bally’s tenacity, Nobby’s little jig
Banksy firm between the sticks and Jackie looks so big
Wembley all in raptures, the whole of England proud
Every radio and TV in the country, as one all in the crowd
Alf Ramsey now the toast of blighty
World Champions never none so mighty
Not much to cheer, since that famous year
But in our hearts still one thing sticks
Eleven men in England red
And the Spirit of 66!
