Up for the Cup ?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The first round of the F.A.Cup
Coventry City versus Arlesly town
was this going to be a Banana Skin
leaving the City fans feeling down ?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The Sky Blues were poor for half an hour
while Arlesly were really up for the fight
they passed it about confidently
while we looked edgy and tight.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Then we finally got that first goal
the bloke by me said we’ll get seven or eight
but without McGoldrick our top striker
I said I wouldn’t put a bet on that mate.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 My pessimism comes from experience
as I can see we are not a very good side
with so many average players in the team
and not wearing the Sky Blue with pride.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But we did go on to get a second goal
and near the end banged in number three
but Arlesly can hold their heads up high
as they really tried hard to beat Coventry.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 So even though the City were below par
we’ve got another home draw out of the hat
but if we want to have a decent Cup run
I’m afraid we’ll have to play a lot better than that !

Notes

We played poorly for large chunks of the match I thought, but a win is a win I suppose in the Cup.

This is the first time we have played in the first round since the sixties, and it did feel a bit weird to be honest.

Only six thousand turned up and after watching the football on offer I wondered why I bothered myself.

Still hopefully we can progress through to the third round and get a big club at home or away, because we need some excitement to cheer us up this rotten season.
