What do they do in SUmmer

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 May, and the season has ended
All that’s left is the Play-offs.
Your team’s fate, good, bad or indifferent
Has been decided.
So now what?
Thirteen weeks with few or no games.
What do football fans do in the summer?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Programmes to put in date order
Shirts (home and away)
To wash and put away
New home strip to buy.
Then what?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Time to catch up
On all the household jobs
Neglected and put off for nine months.
Decorate, paint the fence
Weed the garden, holidays.
Get married
Visit the family.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 But once these jobs are done,
What else do they do
In that between-season limbo?
Follow the summer tournaments
(They’re always there, generating more money)
Chase football around the satellite stations
Looking for that weekly fix.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Visits to the training ground,
Pre-season friendlies,
Whether they be in Denmark or Oldham
Help the situation until
Finally
The new fixture lists are published,
And the faithful can look forward
To another nine months on the road.
