What if I don’t make it?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 “What if I don’t make it”? The little boy said to his dad
“I’ve got two left feet and a sheriff’s badge, it really makes me mad”,
“I want you to be proud of me, and I will practice all day long,
But if I don’t make it to the top, would that be seen as wrong”?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The little boy’s dad told him not to fret, but deep inside he knew
That he himself had not one left foot; he was also ‘blessed’ with two
He promised his son he would find someone, who could help him on his way
Someone who would improve his skills, and teach him how to play

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Someone who would understand not all footballers are the same
That each and every child that wants to play, can all enjoy the game
Someone who really understands, that there’s a level for us all
Even boys, with two left feet and who cannot head a ball

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 He didn’t want his boy to suffer, the taunts he had endured
When he had tried to play the game himself, (a game he just adored)
His two left feet had let him down, every time he’d tried to play
And every time he would head the ball, it would go the opposite way

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The dad himself, had given up playing, when he was still at school
His classmates, teachers, and even his own dad, had made him out a fool
With all these thoughts back in his mind, he enrolled on an FA Course
Helping develop his own sons game, was to be the driving force

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Not too long later, coaching ‘badge’ in place, and confidence restored
The dad was improving his son’s basic skills, the smiles their own reward
Now that dad is helping others every week, as well as his own son
He’s improved his own knowledge of the game, thanks to a ‘level one’

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The moral of this little tale, is that it’s never too late to learn
The joy you get from teaching the game, is what you get in return
Whether you’ve played at the top or not at all, or maybe just for fun
With a coaching ‘badge’ pinned to your chest, your personal growth has just begun.

Notes

I was listening to a chap explaining why he had started to ‘coach’ kids, and although I have always believed that you must have played at some sort of level to be able to teach the game (coaching snob that I am) I was impressed enough by his tale to put my thoughts down
