We’ve Won in Rome. We’ve Won in Rome…
In there, fighting still
Beating Ukraine four goals to nil
On a balmy night in The Eternal City…Rome.
Time to shower, board a plane
Fly back to Blighty, face The Danes
On Wednesday night in our Eternal Home.
Say…we dispatch the marauding Danes?
Are we a match for Italia or Spain?
On current form? I’d say the answers…yes.
Tis looking like this could be our year?
Let’s raise the roof, scream aloud n cheer,
Support the chaps…in their quest for success.
On the subject of success, though I digress,
Please raise a glass, come Monday next,
To 73 years, of our absolutely blinding…NHS.

To a rapturous Stadio Olimpico, in Rome
I leapt up and screamed aloud at the T.V?,
“Strewth! I’ve just witnessed reincarnation
A nation’s unadulterated iconic jubilation
At a scene, seeped in sheer Tardelli ecstasy”.

Bale and Ramsey steal the show
Wales are nearly there ~

Spherical purrs on to the pitch
In a liveried V.W jam-jar
Italia gracefully slip through the gears
Turkey found wanting
Over-heat in a catastrophic defeat
Requiring road-side assistance, me fears?

Hi Crispin,
Thanks for the featured poem for the Arsenal Premier League victory. I love that photo showing the Arsenal ladies and fans in full rattle and rosette mode. I’ve seen it before quite a few times and, I think, a bit iconic. I think it was before the Gunners victory against Liverpool in the 1950 FA Cup Final. Great photograph.

Thanks for that Joe. Yes it’s been some season we had a blip but came out of it and finished strong. A mate of mine supports West Ham here in Coventry and my next door neighbour is a Spurs supporter, and both are getting edgy ! I like the Championship though as it’s competitive and has some good teams, players, and fans. Anyway we are back in the top flight and who knows what will happen ?
