Terry Wharton Helped Make Wolves My Team ©

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Early days when I was caught on,
watching Wolves with a winger named Terry Wharton,
Bolton born, he didn’t need a perfect back lawn,
Terry Wharton ploughed through mud…
no stopping, he always came good.
Fast and direct with a thunderous shot,
and an eye for a goal Terry Wharton had got,
scoring seventy-nine, in his time
as a Wolverhampton Wanderer;
and allow me to say, a hat-trick against WBA,
back in 1963, Wow! Terry Wharton, how happy was he!
Can’t accuse him of being a hider,
with Waggy, he was also a provider,
for other team mates in the game
check the records…if you want to know their name!
A great 10 minutes for fans came when,
Terry Wharton scored twice from a pen,
he made us dream, against Man Utd…
with three ‘all time greats’ in the Red Devils team;
In the North Bank aged only eleven
as Terry Wharton’s penalties
introduced me to football heaven!
In front of 53,000 or so, they fought back as we know,
yet I couldn’t wait for the next game for me to go,
after “A cup tie of which English Football should be proud,”
Kenneth Wolstenholme he did say
that evening on Match of the Day!
These were early days when I was caught on,
watching Wolves with a winger named Terry Wharton,
I shall not forget, and whenever possible I pay my respect;
for memories galore…win, lose or draw!
Terry Wharton passed away
at the age of 83…but for me he’ll always be,
lining up on the right, in a gold shirt, number seven…
preparing me for football heaven,
he made me dream, and helped make Wolves my team!
