Respect And The Lack Of It?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 T’was like a day when you part with a lover
Wondering what yer gonna do next?
Should you go to the pictures, or dive under the covers
And stay in bed feeling dejected?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 As rain hits yer windows, you grimace
At grey skies and black clouds overhead
Even The Power Station overlooking the river
Once proud seems to slope when it’s wet.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Chancing yer arm you get ready
Whilst rain lashes outside on the street
A brisk walk to the ground ignoring the wet
In yer mind seems a welcoming treat.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Two minutes silence brings tears to the minces
As red poppies stand free in the wind
Drunks streaming in stand shoulders back listening
For outrage. But no one today dares to sing.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 To tumultuous applause, yer rubbing yer hands
Trying in vain to get warm
As pensioners in red, and troops from Afghanistan
Remind you of the many who’ve fallen.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 An accident waiting to happen
We were continually riding our luck
Our keeper was saving each effort slung at him
Till his line of cleans sheets kissed the mud.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 At nil one we hung out the white flags
Our heads like the cliche dropped down
Nil two stirred up anger amongst the home fans
Nil three? An exodus was leaving our ground.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Them Mackems destroyed us to lay down their ghost
Of failing to win on our ground
And we’ve shed load of reasons, lame excuses and prose
For failing to turn the game round.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Old familiar shouts rang out loud in the night sky
“Ancellotti you’re a total disgrace”
Tempers flared up almost causing a few fist fights
As scared kids looked on, embarrassed by dad’s angry face.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 As I’d debated going to “The Football” that morning
When I first saw the rain lashing down
I’m glad that I did to at least show my respect for the fallen
Though in defeat I’ve lost respect for some of those in our crowd!

Notes

I’ve always stupidly believed as I’ve walked in to the football stadia of this country following my team, that we can: win, lose or draw today and whatever it turns out to be I’ll (we’ll) hopefully take it on the chin, stand up at the end of the game and loudly applaud the boys off the pitch for giving it a go, no matter what? So call me old fashioned but where does it say, in the FA rules that as we won the double last year (and under this very manager) we’ll win every game this season without fail and turn extremely nasty to the bloke sitting next to or behind us (which would be putting it politely) if we don’t?

I’m missing something somewhere ain’t I?

At least our fans had the decency to observe the two minutes silence, for the fallen with great humility, because later on in the day some of them (not all) totally lost the plot….big time. I made sure I was one of the last to leave, the section where I sit, as I could see fisticuffs was on the cards out in the street after this home defeat.

Er… lads losing what is after all supposedly a game can happen to the best of them, believe me!

Rant over!

Peace.

Kev.
