L.S.F (Leicester Sixteen Fantasy)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The truth is they never had no future,
But they never had no past,
Their dark days, these days are forgotten,
Now they’re all over, simply forgotten,
They had a new chairman,
And these days have disappeared,

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 They chased down the Premier League,
Signed David Nugent on the cheap,
Pearson does it with old school tactics,

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Aah, they’ve done it! Promotion!
The Foxes are back again,
The fans want it, they need it,
They’re rocking just a little more,

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 They shout,
Ah, oh come on!
We’ve got our backs to the wall!
Ah! Come on! Get it up!
Give Cambiasso the ball!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 It was like they got lost in the moment,
They kept losing home and away,
Can’t get back the momentum,
It was the same thing over and over again,

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 They slip down the Premier League,
Till rock bottom, defeat after defeat,
Pearson calls a journalist an ostrich,

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 He says,
“Ah! Oh come on!
We’ve got our backs to the wall!
Ah! Come on! Get it up!
Give Cambiasso the ball!

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Robert Huth! I say that I want you!
Robert Huth! I say that I need you!
A new backbone! A new system! Vardy’s electric!

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 They’re the underdog,
Live their lives on the pride of Leicester,
Keep themselves in the Premier League,

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Pearson says sack me if you dare,
I can say I did the incredible,
I kept this club in the Premier League,

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 The season’s nearly here, Ranieri signs a deal,
Too much tinkering, they all say he’s good for nothing,
They need discipline at the back,
Attractive football counts for nothing,
He had better spendbig now or he will send them down!

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 This league is cut-throat,
The chairman’s patience wears thin,
It is true the simple things in football have been lost,
Bring back the passion Claudio, get rid of the politics,

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 Claudio says, “Mr. Chairman I hear you call,
We need to improve the squad,
We need to improve the style of play”,

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 So he says, “get the ball and break loose,
Break on the counter and get loose,
Get loose, get loose!”
Vardy shoots in the corner, he shoots, shoots in the corner,
Mah-rez shoots in the corner, he shoots, shoots in the corner,

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 The same backbone! A new system! Vardy’s electric!
And they’re on fireeeeeeee!
(Jamie Vardy’s having a par-ty)
They’re on fireeeeee!
(Jamie Vardy’s having a par-ty)

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 But it ain’t eez-eh
So they tighten up at the back!
Now they ain’t leak-eh,
And they’re gonna put the league to rights,

17 Leave a comment on verse 17 0 Claudio says,
“Hey! Oh come on!
We’ve got our backs to the wall!
Oh, come on, and watch out!
We’re gonna win you all”

18 Leave a comment on verse 18 0 They’ve got Huth and Morgan,
Kante and Drinkwater,
A blue wall that’s taken over,

19 Leave a comment on verse 19 0 The Foxes have the power,
To turn Mourinho’s milk sour,
Jose’s milk’s gone sour,
Wenger’s milk’s gone sour,

20 Leave a comment on verse 20 0 Nobody believed them,
Leicester are gonna win the league though,
We all wrote them off but,
Leicester are gonna win the league al-right!
Leicester have won the Premier League!

Notes

I may be a Stoke fan, but I’m a proud Midlander, so surely I’m allowed to bask in the Champions’ glory. What a story it has been for the East Midland club. 2015 was their year and it kept getting better and better. I spent a whole Sunday, enthused by Leicester’s 4-0 win at home to Swansea which all but sealed their crown, writing this ballad to add a new dimension to the hysteria, inspired by lyrics from Kasabian, a band from Leicester. The poem retells the very short story of how they made it to the top in just 2 seasons in the top flight.
