1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The question of being a ‘true’ football fan,
Really shouldn’t have anyone torn
The answer is, the team you should support,
Is within 25 miles of where you were born

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 There are only a few good reasons why,
You can break this golden rule
And supporting Man City, cos’ you hate United,
Just makes you out a fool

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 It’s fascinating that a Southern boy,
Would pick a Northern team to follow
Are there no nearer teams for them to love?
I find that very hard to swallow

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Every week up and down the land,
You see them travel in various styles
To watch their ‘adopted’ football teams,
When they only need to go 25 miles

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 From where I am, within 25 miles,
There are ‘big teams’ from which to choose
But 40 years ago I chose Stockport,
(who always seemed to lose)

(Bet they wish they had him still)
County have had Barney Daniels,
Not quite Pele from Brazil

Gary and his little brother Phil
County have had the Williams boys,
Oshor, Ashley, Paul and Bill

(A Stockport lad if truth be known)
He scored goals for fun on the plastic,
Before their grass was sown

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Bolton they had Nat Lofthouse,
‘The lion of Vienna’, from ‘52’
United they had Georgie Best,
(He played for the County too)

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Rochdale now have Adam le Fondre,
For the lad it was a shame
To lose against his hometown team,
In that famous Wembley game

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 Just down the road at the place called Gigg,
Bury had a ‘legend’ they called Madden
A Stockport boy who scored lots of goals,
Now our ‘youth coach’, he ain’t a bad’un

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 For me it’s not whether they are big or small,
Whether your team are bad or good
Those 25 miles, are what it’s all about,
For the team to be in your blood

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 So for you fans who support a ‘distant’ team,
Watching them on TV down in the pub
Just look within your own 25 miles,
And you will find your ‘true’ football club
