Beckham. Not done for the money.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 So, Beckham says he’s off soon to the U.S. of A.,
For much more, I believe, than the average take-home pay,
But he hasn’t just done it for the barrow loads of dollars,
At least that’s what the man, himself, so very quickly hollers.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Los Angeles Galaxy is his newly chosen club,
For their offer was, it seems to be, far too good to snub,
But he claims he didn’t just do it only for the dosh,
That’s what he’s said so frequently, to us and Posh.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 So he’ll be slowly winding down now in his last few seasons,
Quoting a-hundred-and-twenty-eight million valid reasons,
When asked what had been the one final crux,
He exclaimed, “Nothing at all to do with all the mega-bucks!”

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 But hasn’t the world of football gone completely crackers?
For just the one week’s ‘work,’ half-a-million smackers?
But Posh and Becks do feel that their future’s really sunny,
Of course, it’s nothing whatsoever to do with all the money.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 For a man whose career’s surely now on the wane,
Such payments are, in my view, totally insane,
Nevertheless, my dear friends, I still raise my glass,
For not a single thought was given to the loads of brass.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Victoria’s collection of lovely frocks and frilly ‘ns,
Will be greatly boosted now by her hubby, David’s millions,
And she said she’s so ecstatic for her favourite bunny,
But, honest! It’s nothing at all to do with the money.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 It is felt it will improve the American game,
And then rocket Becks to even greater fame,
Endearing him, in time, to that huge, great nation,
But it’s nothing to do with remuneration.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Some folk think that Becks, with all his lolly, could,
Eventually make his name over in Hollywood,
But the former England captain wants to make it plain,
His move has nothing to do with the financial gain.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 For Beckham there’s a mountain that must be scaled,
One that other great players have previously tried and failed,
But if anyone can do it, then that man is Becks,
And there’s no connexion with the monthly cheques.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Having turned down England’s best, was Beckham off his rocker?
To prefer the L.A. Galaxy and their American soccer,
No! It’s something every Englishman, in truth, applauds,
For not a thought was given to the vast rewards.

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 Fast-forward some few years and could we see the soccer loonies,
Entice another ‘idol’ with a billion Smacker-Rooneys?
If so then I am sure we’ll hear the usual balderdash,
“I did it just for soccer. I had no interest in the cash!”

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 Back to Becks and I foresee some massive dressing room friction,
If and when it happens recall the Boro Bard’s prediction,
If Beck’s should fail, like Pele, a truly great Brazilian,
He can collect his silly money and utter quietly, “Thanks a billion!”
