Eternal Flame

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 And on The Kop, the place where I would
Stand, the place I would live for,
It was covered.
Covered in flowers, scarves,
Tied around the goalposts,
Tributes for the dead. Fans,
Just like me.
They lived for the football and they
Died for the football,
They died
Watching the team they loved.
Was this a sacrifice that needed to be made?
A great man once said:
“Football is not a matter of
Life or Death.
It is much more important than that.”
But on that day, for once,
For the only day in my life,
It didn’t even matter.
Yet we walked on through the storm, and
The clouds lifted, the hope lived on
In the hearts and minds of those still standing
On the Spion Kop.
And they taught their children, who will
Teach their children
That at the end of the storm there is a golden sky,
That You’ll Never Walk Alone.
