For Gary MBE

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 For Gary MBE

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I didn’t know you Gary Speed
No, you didn’t know me too
But ‘Your’ death touched me deep within
So I penned these words for you

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Handsome brave and skilful,
The Welshman had it all
He loved his family, wife, and kids,
But oh! He loved football!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 His dedication held no bounds
A manager’s dream they say
His proud dad travelled far and wide
Just to watch his play

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 His stature and his standing grew
From an early age
His lethal foot and heading skills
Adorned each sporting page

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 From Local pride, to premiership
His football story grew
Cups and trophies held aloft
Professional through and through

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 National captaincy bestowed
Success and Glory came
With self effacing vibrancy
He shone in every game

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 A true friend to so many
He nurtured deep respect
From Elland Road to Millennium
There were none he would neglect

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 His decency and honesty
Aligned with football skill
Endeared him to each one and all
And none would bear him ill

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 A father son and husband
His family came first
A loving wife and two young sons
Pride about to burst

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 Then Hanging high his golden boots
He sought not to retire
To guide and manage those like him
He set his sights much higher

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 Considered not an obvious choice
He took hold the poison chalice
To stir our land with sweet success
Adoration flowed, not malice

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 A future bright, the dragon roared
Gary at its reins
A world cup to look forward to
To build on recent gains

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 Then all was lost; he took his life
The last Sunday of November
Grief outpoured across the land
But we always will remember

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 A man who smiled, a man who cared
A man not above his station
A man who wore the Red of Wales
A credit to his Nation

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 RIP

17 Leave a comment on verse 17 0 madwithwords

Notes

I don’t follow soccer religiously but I am a father, son, brother and husband and also Welsh. I’ve been to the dark side of life but pulled through, you could have too Gary
